The art collection of the Palace Museum is a national museum housed in Forbidden City in Beijing, China, is built upon the imperial collection of the Ming and Qing dynasties. This art collection was expanded in 20th century with the new acquisitions, transfer from the other Museums and the new archaeological discoveries.



The Palace Museum is housed in Forbidden City, the Chinese imperial place from Ming Dynasty to the end of the Qing Dynasty. It is located in the middle of the Beijing, China. For almost five centuries, it served as the home of Emperor and his household and ceremonial and the political centre of Chinese government.

It was built from 1406 to 1420, the complex consists of 980 surviving buildings with the 8,707 bays of rooms and it covers 720,000 square meters. The Palace museum exemplifies traditional Chinese palatial architecture and it has influenced the culture and the architectural developments in the East Asia and elsewhere.


                     
The Forbidden City was declared as a World Heritage Site in the year 1987.  It is listed by UNESCO as the largest collection of the preserved ancient wooden structures in the world.
